Frequently asked questions
How access, Discord, billing, and your data are handled.
General
What does Community Connect do?
It connects your Shopify store to your private Discord (and Telegram, on Pro) community and grants members access based on how much they've spent. You set spend tiers; customers earn the matching role automatically, and a nightly reconciliation keeps everyone's access accurate.
Which platforms are supported?
Discord is supported on every plan. Telegram is available on the Pro plan.
Do my customers need a special account?
No. Customers use their existing Discord account. They click "Join community" on your store (or an emailed invite), authorize Discord once, and they're placed in the right role.
Access & spend
How is a customer's spend calculated?
By lifetime net spend: all paid orders minus refunds and chargebacks. It uses your full order history, not just the last 60 days, so tiers reflect a customer's true lifetime value.
Is access tied to a specific product?
No. Access is gated by spend tiers, not by individual products. A customer who clears a threshold — however they got there — earns that tier's role.
What happens when a customer gets a refund or chargeback?
Refunds and chargebacks are subtracted from net spend. If that drops the customer below a tier threshold, their role is removed on the next reconciliation. You can add a per-tier grace period, or set it to zero for immediate removal.
Will it kick members who joined before I installed the app?
Not unless you choose to. The app starts in a record-only mode and supports grandfathering and exempt roles, so existing members and staff are never removed by surprise. You decide when to enable enforcement.
Is there a lifetime membership option?
Membership is dynamic and reflects current net spend. If you want to keep specific members regardless of spend, grandfather them individually from the role-exceptions report.
Discord
What data does Community Connect send to Discord?
Only the role assignment for the Discord account a customer authorizes. Your customers' email, name, and order data are never sent to Discord.
Why does the bot need the "Server Members Intent"?
Reconciliation compares your Discord member list against your customers to keep roles accurate and flag members who haven't purchased. Discord requires the Server Members Intent to read that member list. Enable it in the Discord Developer Portal for the app's bot.
The bot can't assign a role — what's wrong?
Discord only lets a bot manage roles that sit below its own role. In your server's role settings, drag the Community Connect bot's role above the roles you want it to assign.
Billing
How much does it cost?
The Free plan covers Discord membership and nightly reconciliation with up to 2 tiers and 50 tracked members. Pro is $12/month with a 14-day free trial, and unlocks unlimited tiers and members, bulk email invitations, and Telegram.
How am I billed?
Billing is handled securely by Shopify and appears on your regular Shopify invoice. You never enter payment details into the app itself.
How do I upgrade or cancel?
Open Plans & billing in the app and choose a plan. Upgrades and cancellations go through Shopify's secure billing page; you can cancel anytime.
Privacy & data
What customer data do you store?
The minimum needed: a customer's Shopify ID, their Discord ID (once linked), marketing-consent state, and their derived net spend and tier. Email and name are encrypted at rest. Order line items are fetched on demand and not stored. Full detail is in the privacy policy.
Does the app change anything in my store?
No. Community Connect is read-only to Shopify — it requests no write scopes and never modifies products, orders, or customers.
How do you handle GDPR / data deletion?
The app honors Shopify's mandatory privacy webhooks. On customers/redact we delete that
customer's data; on shop/redact we delete all of the shop's data. Uninstalling the app
stops all processing. See the privacy policy.
